Roxie, a delightful rescued mix-breed, spent 3 days at the Cottage with her equally delightful caregivers. They did some hiking, overall exploring, and took at a trip to MAMoCA. They plan on returning when the weather in the summer for canoeing and the zip line canopy tours.

“We had to let Sweet Pea go – she had a spinal tumor that was very swollen, putting pressure on her internal organs, causing pain and discomfort. She had started wasting, had lost interest in her food, and was asking us, with her eyes, for relief….release. She gave us 6 years – from being an abused pitbull on Animal Precinct NYC to being our pitbull ambassador on wheels at the Pet Expo – she was a great Nana dog to Willa and Webster….she was my heart. Never to be forgotten, irreplaceable, one great dog.”

I had the distinct privilege of getting to know Sweetpea for just over a year. An amazing creature – gentle, courageous, affectionate, with a huge heart and like all animals, resolutely dealing with her physical afflictions without complaint and always letting those who loved her so dearly know that she so appreciated her life with them.

Her absence creates a major gap in all our lives but her spirit and positive energy lives on forever. Peace Sweetpea.

SOLOMON VISITS CAVALIER COTTAGE

We were so pleased to host Solomon and his caregivers who spent two nights at Cavalier Cottage. Here is what Leslie Grinnell, owner of Eddie’s Wheels wrote about their visit to EW’s.

Solomon is in hospice, and came hoping for a cart to give his time left some pleasure and mobility – we had a cart here that was never delivered because the dog for whom it was built passed on- it was a perfect fit, we made an outrigger, and Solomon stood and walked around the yard. We’re renting it to him for whatever time he needs it for….. Makes you believe in guardian angels…..

DUKE, A HANDSOME CORGI, VISITS CAVALIER COTTAGE

Duke, a delightful and sweet Corgi overnighted at Cavalier Cottage this week. He was outfitted with an Eddie’s Wheels custom made dog wheelchair about a year ago after determining that he had degenerative myelopathy.

He’s returning to Eddie’s Wheels for wheelchair changes because of the progression of the DM. They will make adjustments that will allow for the back wheels to be moved forward and thereby, a remove a lot of the weight from his shoulder area.

It was a pleasure to host Duke and his caretaker Cathy.

ROCKET VISITS CAVALIER COTTAGE

Rocket, a fabulous 10-year young mix Coon hound, spent the weekend with his caregivers at Cavalier Cottage B&B.

Rocket, who is an avid hiker, accompanied Melissa and Bart exploring various area trails. At the end of each day, Rocket happily took to his bed to re-energize while mum and dad went out to sample restaurants in Shelburne Falls and Northampton.

They had such a good time, they plan on visiting again during the warmer weather months.

Melissa and Bart rescued Rocket from a shelter when he was 5 years old. What a lucky fellow!
